Precast Concrete Retaining Wall Systems

AFTEC is one of the most renowned retaining walls companies in Georgia!
AFTEC’S retaining walls are manufactured to withstand the lateral pressure of gravity for soil slopes and walls. Retaining walls can be manufactured in various designs using mesmerizing finishes and textures.

What are Retaining Walls?

Landscape retaining walls are made of retaining wall blocks made of different materials. The function of retaining walls is to provide support to the upright walls and slope soils against the lateral pressure of the gravity. Precast retaining walls provide architectural support to the walls against lateral gravity pressure and protect them from erosion and landscaping.
AFTEC has engineered several types of retaining walls including, sheet-piled, gravity, and cantilever using numerous finishes, textures, and designs to add versatility.

Concrete Retaining Wall Blocks

We manufacture concrete retaining walls using fabulously designed concrete blocks on observable surfaces using various architectural patterns.
We use large retaining wall blocks to retain small to medium walls up to 12ft from one to the other level of the earth. We also install precast barriers and fence on top of the slopes and walls where required. We are providing retaining wall installation services in Georgia.

Types of Retaining Walls

AFTEC specializes in manufacturing Various types of retaining walls according to the customer’s requirements. We provide large precast concrete retaining wall blocks to retain small to medium walls up to 12ft. our services are available in most areas of Georgia including, Atlanta, Savannah, Augusta, and Macon.

These are some of the most prominent types of retaining walls.

Cantilever is a contemporary type of retaining wall manufactured by concrete and masonry with steel to form cantilever blocks. Cantilever transform lateral gravity pressure in the vertical direction to cancel its effect. These blocks provide a strong structural foothold to retain large slopes durably.

CMU block walls are masonry units that are used to construct retaining walls. Generally, 8” x4” x2.25” size kiln-fired brick and mortar are used. They are commonly incorporated with steel to increase its durability and lifespan.

Sheet Piled

Sheet piled retaining walls are manufactured using different materials such as vinyl, plastic planks, fiberglass, wooden planks, and steel. To enhance the strength of sheet piled walls they must be hammered at least two-third the slope of the wall into the ground.

Gravity retaining walls are build using rigid-footing techniques to elevate their durability. These walls are engineered with large concrete blocks. The walls get support from the weight of concrete blocks to withstand the lateral pressure of gravity.

AFTEC manufacture and install customized retaining walls using different finishes. Decorative assents designs and textures to increase its versatility. And these walls are durable enough to bear heavy pressure of gravity without showing any sign of wear and tear.

Precast Retaining Wall Materials

AFTEC industrial and commercial retaining walls consist of precast concrete panels and columns designed and engineered to withstand the lateral pressures of the earth to be retained. These walls are available with architectural finishes such as stone, brick, block, stucco or custom architectural designs on the visible side of the wall.

precast retaining wall materials
  • Concrete: Aggregate, cement powder and water designed for the engineered mix desired. Steel reinforcement and concrete are the ultimate materials for building retaining walls.
  • Concrete Blocks: Small rock aggregate, cement powder and water formed into a hollow block. The concrete blocks are then stacked on continuous concrete footings using grouted cells and reinforcing for structural strength. Labor intensive.
  • Cinder Blocks: Volcanic aggregate, cement powder and water formed into a hollow block. The cinder blocks are then stacked on continuous concrete footings using grouted cells and reinforcing for structural strength. Labor intensive.
  • Stone: Stone is sometimes used for retaining walls in areas where it is plentiful by slant stacking, using the specific gravity of the stone to retain earth.
  • Brick: When used, brick is a fascia on retaining walls for appearance. Brick does
not have structural integrity for retaining capabilities.
  • Stucco: Stucco is also used for an fascia appearance on retaining walls.
  • Wood: Wood timbers or rail road ties are sometimes used for retaining walls, but unless properly treated, wood deteriorates.
  • Steel: Steel is used in all steel reinforced concrete retaining walls for structural strength.

Design Process

The foremost step that goes into building a retaining wall system is design engineering. The design has to get approved first before initiating the production process. Our molding workshops word hard to assemble the design-specific concrete retaining wall blocks to construct the retaining walls system. The production process is generally carried on employing the Forming Equipment by one of the AFTEC producers that operate near the jobsite.

Retaining Walls System Installation

The installation process of a retaining walls system begins with the digging and excavation of the Caisson foundations. The Caisson foundations are then flooded to the precise height with the structural support and columns, installed into the foundations. After lying down the Caisson foundation, the wall blocks or panels are delivered and installed.

Cost Determinants

The cost of designing, producing and installing a retaining wall system for a project is determined by many factors that are mentioned below

  • Project Location
  • Retaining Height
  • Wall Length
  • Soil Conditions
  • Lateral Pressure and Loads
  • Water Drainage
  • Required Backfill
  • Architectural Finish Type
  • Labor Conditions
  • Right Equipment Availability
  • Owner/Contractor
  • Requirements for Jobsite
  • Underlying Obstructions,
  • Obstacles, Utilities, etc.
  • Overhead Bridges,
  • Obstacles, Barriers,
  • Utilities, etc.

Benefits of Precast Concrete Retaining Walls

Retaining walls provide the best support against lateral gravity pressure. Besides that, these are some of the marvelous perks of concrete retaining walls.

  • Adorable Appearance: AFTEC manufactures customized precast retaining walls and fences combined with multiple textures, designs, and aesthetic materials to create a charming look.
  • Erosion Control: Landscaping and erosion is caused by an imbalanced construction and lack of support. Concrete retaining walls provide that support and control erosion.
  • Flood Prevention: people living near water bodies know very well, that they constantly have to face the fear of flood. Installation of retaining walls near water bodies gives you a chance to protect your area before it get flooded.
  • Cost-Effective: Cantilevered concrete is one of the most durable materials used to manufacture retaining walls by AFTEC. We use high-quality cantilevered concrete to maximize the durability of retaining walls meanwhile the requirement of material being used for the process is reduced that makes it quite cost-efficient.

Service Areas: Atlanta, Savannah, Augusta, Athens, Macon, Alpharetta, Norcross, Valdosta, Marrieta, Tybee Island, Kennesaw, and in all other cities of Georgia.
